An old monk
I am a returning player and I have a 4 year old monk that I am not crazy about (as I am a Terrible Healer).
She is still a baby and does NOT have a 2nd profession yet.
I need your help:
1) What is a good 2nd to make her more of a fighter/damage dealer than healer?
2) What is a good build = or what would YOU like in a Monk/.....non healer.
I have no preference toward melee, ranged or magic - just want a character that can hold her own using only Henchies and Hero's. I have all of the expansion packs so have access to all of the professions.
THANKS!

The secondary you choose at the beginning only matters before you're able to switch is, which is very soon if you go with the Factions storyline.
Assuming you're hero/henching, here are a few suggestions for what you can do:
- Mo/A with Assassin's Promise and a generic caller bar + prots or smite skills;
- Mo/Me with Ray of Judgment and Arcane Echo (it's a decent build for playing with a human party too, although they'd want you to do backline);
- Mo/D with a scythe, you want to make sure your hero midline has good prots (Aegis + PS + SoA on the minion bomber are enough). Not recommended unless you have experience with melee classes.
Google gwpvx if you haven't already.
If you're going to play a monk, I highly recommend picking up some monking skills as it's the reason to play the profession. How I personally learned the basics was packing a WoH hybrid build and play some RA.
GL!
PS: btw, don't ask for builds on the Campfire. It makes people twitchy

Oh dear Haggis - sorry about the builds! Sure hate to make folks twitchy!
I am not sure WHY I created a monk years ago - I have never really liked the healer class(s) - but I did and Everyone says Not To Delete a character because of the B-Day gifts.
I did look up different builds on the PvXWiki and the names are a little funky. I am not sure what they all mean and after looking at a couple - well - I came here to ask The Experts.
Sounds like you recommend the M/A for the skills/playstyle of that combo.
Thanks for the info.

Do whatever until you've completed the campaigns on it - then go build crafting.
Anyway, been meaning to try this sort of thing out:
Mo/W
Cyclone Axe, Whirlwind Attack, Penetrating Chop, [something], Frenzy/Drunken Master, Protective Spirit, Strength of Honor, Save Yourselves
Not sure if you'll have the energy to use Asuran Scan. Have a hero maintain Balthazar's Spirit on you and you should be ok.
Or just blow things up with Ray of Judgement. I hear that works out.

I'd go for RoJ. with PvE skills it'd better than Eles in HM. Plus you can run stuff like Smite condition/smite hex/reversal of damage.

[Mo / Me] auspicious incantation, arcane echo, ray of judgement. Chain it (echo -> RoJ -> Ausp Inc -> echoed RoJ -> RoJ). and you have a nice big AoE, but needs to be selective about targets. Spike it with PVE skills (Pain Inverter, Finish Him, You Move Like A Dwarf).
Apart from that, Never tried monk melee builds.

This, but take the Asuran summon Ice Imp instead of either Pain Inverter or Finish Him -- the imp can use Ice Spikes to snare the enemies in your Ray of Judgement. Use YMLaD on the mob's biggest threat to keep them in ROJ.

I'm playing the Mo/Me Ausp Inc / Arcane Echo / RoJ build at the moment and it's working great for me. I added EVAS in there which gives the flexibility to echo RoJ or spike 2 assassins. Add By Urals Hammer for a + 25% dmg on the RoJ and watch stuff go poof. Especially undead stuff.

You could go /E for air spells along with smiting along with a self heal.
